Fr. Matthias (Donald) Montgomery of the Cross was born February 4, 1935, in New Britain, Connecticut to parents Patrick and Mary (nee Fagan) Montgomery. He entered the Discalced Carmelite Order in Brookline, Massachusetts on August 2, 1954. Fr. Matthias made his first profession of vows on August 15, 1955 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 1962. He served the Discalced Carmelites in a variety of ministries including Vocation Director, Provincial Councilor, Prior, Retreat Director, Confessor to our Carmelite Nuns, Postulant and Novice Director and Assistant to the Secular Carmelites. Fr. Matthias died on September 21, 2010, and is buried at the Carmelite Cemetery in Hubertus, Wisconsin.
