Born in Woburn, MA, he was the last of nine children born to Martin J. and Margaret (McCabe) McCauley. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII, and as an Army Chaplain in Korea and AZ. Father Daniel entered the Discalced Carmelite Order in 1949 and was ordained to the Priesthood in 1955. He studied Latin, Philosophy, Theology, Music, and was an instructor in Gregorian Chant. Between 1986 - 2004 he was the Resident Chaplain for the Carmelite Monastery in Carmel, and he received permission to live part time in a "Hermitage" in Corralitos. In 2008 he retired to Holy Hill, WI. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched by his wisdom, holiness, gentleness, sweet humor, and beautiful singing.
