Fr. Adrian (James) Cooney of St. Joseph was born August 17, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts to parents Thomas and Catherine (nee Mulligan) Cooney. During his priestly ministry, Father attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, studying English. He compiled and published “Study Guide for Our Tertiaries” in 1973. He lived for a time at St. Joseph’s Priory in Bucks, England, researching, studying and writing. Father Adrian devoted many years to the Secular Carmelites and was also the editor of the Provincial Newsletter from 1981-1984. The newsletter was printed regularly, giving friars and nuns an opportunity to keep in touch and learn about the happenings of the province. Fr. Adrian died on August 12, 1988 and is buried at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline, Massachusetts.
